'Hunger Games' Trailer Sparks Strong Reaction From Fans

The Hunger Games is a first person young-adult science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games has been billed as the new Twilight, a horrific prospect to those already looking forward to the end of the tween-favourite saga.

Much to the relief of "Hunger Games" fans worldwide, Lionsgate finally has debuted its first full-fledged trailer for the dystopian adventure due out March 23. While fans will have to wait for more insight into the book's love triangle, which was largely ignored in this two-and-a-half minute teaser, there is much to be gleaned from the clip.

Once the video hit the internet, fans of the Suzanne Collins novels rushed to view the first real look at the highly anticipated Lionsgate film, starring Jennifer Lawrence. The Hunger Games takes place in an unidentified future time period after the destruction of North America, in a nation known as Panem.

Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve surrounding, poorer districts. District 12, where the book begins, is located in the coal-rich region that was formerly Appalachia

Chief among the reasons to be cheerful is Jennifer Lawrence in the lead. The X Men: First Class actor plays a young woman called Katniss who volunteers to enter the titular games, an annual event in which a boy and girl from each district of the dystopian nation of Panem (formerly the USA) are sent to battle to the death.

The film will be directed by Gary Ross with Jennifer Lawrence in the role of Katniss, Josh Hutcherson as the role of Peeta, and Liam Hemsworth as the role of Gale.

The filmmakers went into production in late Spring 2011 with an anticipated release date of March 23, 2012.
