Whitney Houston's cause of death revealed by L.A. coroner

The Los Angeles County coroner's office has determined that Whitney Houston's official cause of death is: "drowning and effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use." Houston, 48, was "found submerged in bathtub filled with water" and "no trauma or foul play is suspected," the coroner said in a one-page release. The cause was cited as drowning and "effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use".

Other drugs found in her blood included marijuana, as well as an anti-anxiety drug, a muscle relaxant and an allergy medication. When occlusion in the arteries reaches 75 percent narrowing, it is typically considered dangerous, but, Fishbein says, 60 percent occlusion for a woman of 48 is above average. An autopsy was conducted the day after she died.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office has determined that Whitney Houston's official cause of death is: "drowning and effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use."

Capt. John Kades of the Los Angeles County coroner's office said at the time there no indications of foul play and no obvious signs of trauma on Houston's body. It's the cocaine that has the singer's former sister-in-law, Leolah Brown, pointing fingers at Whitney's reported boyfriend at her time of death, Ray J. During a Thursday interview on HLN‘s “Dr. Drew,”

Houston’s former sister-in-law Leolah Brown took things a bit further, accusing Ray J of being the late singer’s “runnerboy” and plying her with drugs. "Even though Leolah Brown was no where near the Beverly Hilton Hotel on the day Whitney Houston died, Ms. Brown falsely claimed that Ray J was at the hotel and contributed to Whitney Houston's death," Ray J's rep says.

"Even the most minimal inquiry with anyone actually in contact with Whitney would reveal that Leolah Brown had been out of contact with Whitney for more than a year."
