Conrad Murray Prosecutor Wants Maximum Sentence

Prosecutors have asked a judge to sentence Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson's former doctor, to the maximum four years in prison for his involuntary manslaughter conviction in the singer's 2009 death. In a separate court filing, defense attorneys for Dr. Conrad Murray, 58, sought to convince Los Angeles trial judge Michael Pastor to sentence their client to probation.

"A person's medical or mental health status in the Los Angeles County Jail is protected under the law," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore tells E! News. But while there was no official comment on Murray's condition by his jailers, the doctor's team is not holding back.

Prosecutors David Walgren and Deborah Brazil wrote that Murray has shown no remorse for Jackson's death and has placed blame on others, including Jackson himself. In a sentencing memorandum delivered to Judge Michael Pastor in advance of a 29 November hearing, Mr Walgren said Murray had shown no remorse for Jackson's death.

TMZ reports that prosecutors in the Conrad Murray manslaughter case are asking Judge Michael Pastor to order the doc to pay Michael Jackson's children more than $100 million for their loss.

Murray was at the singer's house and had given him the powerful anaesthetic propofol as a sleep aid, which medical examiners said was the chief cause of his death. Defense team attorney Matt Alford failed to appear in court this morning for a contempt hearing, resulting in Pastor issuing, but holding, a bench warrant for his arrest.
